Hi Housemates (is that the collective noun for a group of House 21 bloggers?!), and welcome to a brand-new feature!
I hope that this will be a regular thing, so I better introduce myself – I’m Charlotte, I’m 25, and live in Warwickshire. By day, I’m a journalist, and in my free time I can be found with my two crazy spaniels or hunting online for my next bargain purchase.
Which brings me nicely onto this new feature that I’ll be bringing to you every Friday…
“Save, spend, splurge” is all about my top weekly purchases, falling into three categories: save (a real bargain find under £10); spend (a purchase that doesn’t always break the bank, but is a little more expensive, priced between £10-£100); and splurge (a real luxury treat or investment piece that costs over £100).
This idea spawned from a recent renovation project we’ve been doing on our house which involved me spending many hours behind the screen searching for everything from wall art to cushions and trying to make it as cost effective as possible. Teaming this with my love of fashion and beauty and voilà – save, spend, splurge was born!
While there will be some big brand names and outlets mentioned on here, I hope to mainly focus on small brands and businesses – something I’ve tried to support massively during lockdown as I’m always amazed at the little gems you find.
So, if you know of a small biz that deserves a mention, hit me up!
Now, without further ado, here’s this week’s “Save, spend, splurge”.
Daisy Digital wall art/prints
Price: £6.00 for A4 prints, £5.00 for A5, or £2.75 for A6
Where to buy: Etsy – TheDaisyDigital
As I mentioned, we’ve recently renovated our house. While the walls and colour schemes are fairly neutral, I fell in love with the Pinterest-style gallery walls I’d seen on Instagram, and knew they’d be the perfect “colour-pop” the house needed.
I wasn’t really sure of exactly what kind of art I wanted, so I headed to Etsy where I found Daisy Digital. I followed the shop on Instagram and got chatting to owner, Kelly, who is an absolutely gorgeous human, and long story short, ended up buying over 30 prints from her which now adorn most of the walls in our house!
Kelly’s style is bright and happy, but she also did a number of custom prints for me too, so she really does have something for everyone.
Best of all, these prints came in at a budget-friendly £6.00 per A4 print. Teamed with a £2.50 frame from Tesco’s home section, these were the perfect additions to our walls.
See picture below for the bottom half of our gallery wall!
(Nb. There were 27 prints all together to hang here, I was not very popular that day…)
ASOS/Vero Moda wrap style floral maxi dress
Where to buy: ASOS
My “spend” pick this week had to go to this gorgeous dress!
When I posted this picture on Instagram, my DMs went crazy with people asking for the link to it. And in fact, three people stopped me that day to ask where it was from, so I figured it must be a pretty special “must-have” item in your wardrobe this summer!
This gorgeous dress has a silky finish (without getting sticky and sweaty in the heat) and features buttons down the skirt – meaning you can flash a bit of leg if you’re feeling brave.
On me, it finishes just above the ankle, so it’s perfect for chucking on with flip flops for a picnic in the park, or pairing with some heels for drinks with the girls.
A little on the pricier side for a simple dress, but a definite wardrobe staple this summer!
Neom Wellbeing Pod essential oil diffuser and oils
Price: £120, using a discount code (regular price £90.00 for the pod and £60.00 for the 4 x 100ml oils set, worth £80)
Where to buy: Lookfantastic
I’m always sceptical when people say products or items have changed their life, but this week’s “splurge” really has made such a difference to my day-to-day routine.
I finally took the plunge and purchased my Neom Wellbeing Pod after seeing so many trendy health and lifestyle influencers raving about its magic powers.
My job is stressful at times, and I often have trouble winding down before bed, so I purchased the pod (which is an essential oil diffuser) with the starter pack of four essential oils – one designed to help you sleep, one to de-stress you, one to make you happy and the final one to boost your mood.
When the pod arrived, I was instantly in love with its gorgeous simple design, meaning it sat nicely on my bedside table and complimented the existing décor.
I tried the “sleep” scent first and I was honestly asleep in minutes – thank god it’s got a timer!
The Wellbeing Pod diffuses heatless vapour into the room and has a built-in optional light that fills the room with a gentle warm glow.
It’s been an absolute game-changer for me and has helped massively with stressful days, migraines, and times when you just need to take 10 minutes out to chill.
Even my partner commented on how “zen” our room feels now, so it must be a winner!
I bought my Neom pod and the starter pack of four essential oil blends from Lookfantastic for £120 (using a discount code), so this is an expensive purchase. But, if like me you struggle switching off and relaxing, it is worth every penny.
