I guess that my love affair with skincare and makeup started when I was very young. My mother used to work as a counter girl for Clinique and I always admired her radiant, natural beauty and longed for the day I was grown up enough to play with all her magic potions and lotions.
As soon as I was old enough to start thinking about skincare and makeup, Clinique was of course my go-to – it was a brand I’d grown up trusting and felt safe with.
For me, Clinique is a brand that empowers women to feel their best, without detracting from their natural assets and beauty and the quality of their skincare makes taking makeup off just as much fun as it is to put on. So I was thrilled to be gifted some of their hottest skincare products to try and review.
Fresh Pressed™ Renewing Powder Cleanser with Pure Vitamin C
Let’s start with the cleanser…
Before I even tried the product, I was really impressed with the concept of how this product works.
As the name gives away, it’s a powder cleanser that turns to a liquid when poured onto wet hands.
By day, I’m a journalist and that means travelling a lot. While this is of course a pleasure, there’s nothing more frustrating that trying to prioritise which 10 liquids you can take in your hand luggage. But with this ‘dry’ product it eliminates the problem, meaning skincare can always be prioritised wherever I am.
The sachets are small – so perfect for popping in your handbag – but are jam-packed with product. So much so, that I had enough to double cleanse with every use, leaving my skin extra glowy.
In terms of its efficacy, the cleanser is light, but powerful, and after seven days of use my skin felt much more alive and fresher, which I would say is down to the Vitamin C component in the formula.
Unlike a lot of cleansers, this doesn’t strip your skin – perfect for those of us with dry or combination skin.
In true Clinique fashion, it’s unscented, leaving you feeling fresh and clean and avoiding any nasty reactions or breakouts that I usually find with heavily scented products.
For me, there are no negatives of the Fresh Pressed Renewing Powder Cleanser, and I give it a 5* review – will definitely be making this a permanent part of my skincare routine!
Dramatically Different™ Hydrating Jelly Anti-Pollution
As the sun is finally deciding to make an appearance, I’m moving away from my heavy ‘winter’ moisturisers and switching to gel-type formulas. For me, I find this creates a better base for my makeup and avoids your makeup sliding off of your skin, so I was immediately a fan of the Dramatically Different Hydrating Jelly.
Designed for all skin types, this product is best used as the final product in Clinque’s 3-Step Skin Care System, but it does work just as well alone.
The jelly itself is water-based, meaning its incredibly lightweight and felt like it really nourished my skin.
While the formula is oil-free (important if you wear lash extensions, like me) I did find the product to be a little bit sticky when I first applied it. However, it penetrates very quickly and leaves no residue at all, so the initial stickiness was a very minor point for me.
One of the things I really love about this product is the Anti-Pollution feature. I live in a city and often travel to the capital for work, but always dread the post-travel ‘London-skin’ breakout that follows – which I can only put down to all the nasty fumes and pollution.
Using Clean Shield Technology, the hydrating jelly uses a combination of sunflower seed cake, barley extract and cucumber fruit extract to strengthen the skin’s barrier – keeping out the effects of pollution – while retaining moisture levels, meaning no more breakouts.
As always with Clinique products, I love that they optimise natural ingredients in their skincare. It makes products safe for all ages and skin types, and it really does provide wonderful results.
After using this for a week, my skin feels smooth and more balanced – and I even managed to mostly avoid the dreaded ‘hormonal skin’ while using the product (see pic below!)
For me, it’s a 4* product – dropping a mark only because of the initial stickiness – but I’d definitely recommend and use this product again.
