And just like that, Sex and the City is back

Culture, News & OpinionsBy BethJanuary 27, 2021Leave a comment

Following news that Sex and the City spin-off will definitely be happening, ‘I couldn’t help but wonder’ whether it’s a good thing or not. Like so many people on the planet, I’m a SATC superfan. Yep, that’s right. I’ve seen the series eight times, watched both films, bought the books and even did my university

Sociology of Fashion: An introduction

Culture, StyleBy rcrossJanuary 24, 2021Leave a comment

In September 2020 I visited the V&A museum in London for the first time. One of the exhibitions was on fashion over time, exploring how fashion has changed alongside changing expectations, norms and gender roles. This got me thinking about the sociology of fashion and how clothing is framed in society.

The Pembrokeshire Murders – Fiona’s Review

Culture, News & OpinionsBy FionaJanuary 22, 2021Leave a comment

The ITV have recently released their adaptation of the notorious Pembrokeshire murders, staring Luke Evans and Keith Allen. Evans plays Steve Wilkins, the detective, whose unfaltering determination finally led to the conviction of John Cooper (Keith Allen). The story is adapted from the book Wilkins wrote ‘The Pembrokeshire Murders: Catching the Bullseye Killer’ and told

A gruff looking, well built Luke Evans as DSI Steve Wilkins stands to the left of frame in a dark coat buttoned up against the wind. The Pembrokeshire coastline curves behind him. A cold and gritty filter gives the shot a dark and ominous feel.

The Pembrokeshire Murders – killing the competition on terrestrial telly

CultureBy ValeofGlamMamJanuary 18, 2021Leave a comment

One in three people who watch normal television were watching The Pembrokeshire Murders this week. Without the live, appointment viewing lure of Strictly or Bake Off and in an era of on demand overabundance through Netflix and Prime, this is no mean feat for an ITV Drama. Made in Wales with Welsh actors, the overwhelming

Llinos’s favourite read of 2020: a book for our times

Culture, ReadingBy LlinosJanuary 15, 2021Leave a comment

I can’t remember how I came across ‘Anxious People’ by Fredrik Backman, but I’m so glad I did.  As soon as I began to read it, I knew it was something truly special.  I’m not someone who effuses about books very often, even though I’m a voracious reader, so the fact that I’m telling everyone

SATC’s return – Dawn is here for it

Culture, News & OpinionsBy DawnJanuary 15, 2021Leave a comment

I truly believe they don’t make series like they used too and Sex and the city for me is up there as one of the best and nothing for me has ever come close. Although this series was popular in the late nighties I didn’t start watching until I was in my mid-twenties, and I

Podcasts – Why have they become so popular?

Culture, News & OpinionsBy SinéadJanuary 14, 2021Leave a comment

Podcasts have had a real popularity surge during the last year – why is this? I myself have been a podcast fiend for a few years now but have definitely listened to more of them during 2020. Podcasts actually began in the 1980s and were called ‘audio blogging’, however due to the lack of means

5 reasons you need the Masked Singer right now

Love it or hate it, the Masked Singer is back on ITV for 2021. And quite frankly, I’m ecstatic about it! What is The Masked Singer? The Masked Singer is a TV programme that started in South Korea (called King of Mask Singer) and has taken off across the world. People at home/viewers join a
