My favourite time of the year to read is in the summer. There’s nothing better than spending a day in the sunshine with a good book. As the weather starts to take a turn for the better, I thought I’d share 5 new releases I’m looking forward to reading this summer!
1) The Road Trip by Beth O’Leary
If you love cheesy rom-coms and haven’t read a Beth O’Leary book yet, you’re definitely missing out! O’Leary is the fantastic author behind The Flatshare and The Switch, and her latest novel is not one to miss!
The Road Trip tells the story of Addie and her sister who are travelling to a friend’s wedding in Scotland. After crashing into the car of Addie’s ex, Dylan, who is also travelling to the wedding with his friend, the four are forced to car share for the rest of the journey. Can Addie survive the three hundred mile journey in a confined space with the man who broke her heart?
2) Malibu Rising by Taylor Jenkins Reid
This book is EVERYWHERE on Instagram right now, after being recently released only a few weeks ago! This is the latest novel from Taylor Jenkins Reid, the author of best-selling books ‘Daisy Jones and the Six’, and ‘The Seven Husbands of Evelyn Hugo’.
‘Malibu Rising’ is set in California in the summer of 1983 and follows a celebrity family at their end of summer gathering. As the drinks flow and the party atmosphere comes to life, secrets and mysteries which have haunted the Riva family will be revealed and their mansion will be burnt to the ground. But who did it, and why?
Promising mystery, glamour and gossip this book is definitely on my ‘to read’ list for the summer.
3) Talk Bookish to Me by Kate Bromley
This rom-com novel follows historical fiction author and bookstagrammer Kara Sullivan as she reaches a hectic point in her life. Her best friend’s wedding is fast approaching and she needs inspiration for her next novel as the deadline looms. But the inspiration for her book appears in the unlikely form of her ex, Ryan. Does she allow herself to fall for him again in order to save her career and get her happy ending?
As a bookstagrammer and lover of historical fiction and romance books, this novel sounds right up my street.
4) Mrs England by Stacey Halls (Release Date: 10th June 2021)
I know you shouldn’t judge a book by its cover, but I recently managed to pick up a copy of this book on its release day and it is gorgeous! Having recently enjoyed Stacey Halls’ previous book, ‘The Foundling’, I was desperate to get a copy of her latest release!
This historical fiction novel is set in early 20th-century Yorkshire and tells the story of Ruby May, a young nursemaid who takes up a position in the household of the wealthy Mr and Mrs England. Isolated and alone, Ruby soon comes to learn that there is no such thing as a perfect family. This novel promises suspense, mystery and deception.
5) The Last Chance Library by Freya Sampson (Release Date: 31st August 2021)
June Jones is a librarian who loves to spend her time with her head buried in a book. But when her library is threatened with closure, June must be brave and fight for the library which means so much to her. She must decided whether to come out of her shell and join the eccentric group of people who want to save the library. If she does, she might confidence, friends and even someone who will change her life.
This book sounds so sweet, I can’t wait for its release later this summer!
