Looking back to this time last year, little did we know we were only a month into what turned out to be a 6 month stretch of not being allowed to sit down with food indoors anywhere that wasn’t your own home. This is crazy to think back to, especially as one of my favourite hobbies is going out for food. Be it brunch (bottomless and otherwise), lunch or dinner.
Since we have been allowed to sit down indoors for food, I have most definitely made the most of this freedom through brunch. I made it my aim this year (once permitted) to try out a variety of new places to eat some of which I will share below. Plus a couple golden places that I had been to before but continue to get gravitationally pulled towards (oops).
Mrs Potts Chocolate House
Locations: Bristol, Bath, Cardiff
I had been following this chocolate house on Instagram for ages before stumbling into it on accident in Bristol and it did not disappoint. You can choose from ranging percentages of chocolate in your hot chocolate or mocha. I went for a roasted white chocolate hot chocolate. Then their delicious baked goods can be drizzled in melted white, milk or dark chocolate, I chose all three on top of my double chocolate cookie sandwich. It was just divine and I can’t wait to go back!
Locations: Across UK
I went to the St Albans branch of Gail’s which I had never actually heard of before so was surprised to find out later it was a chain! But that just means ample opportunity to go back. Serving some delicious drinks and baked goods both sweet and savoury ~ opting for a spinach and feta roll alongside a raspberry and pistachio pastry with a mocha.
Arguably my favourite find so far this year! Most amazing food and affordable prices, my go to option is their meal deal where you choose your main (chicken with a range of flavour options) and two sides with a drink. Great food, great vibes and like their sign it truly is good for your soul!
Locations: Across UK
Thai food made with fresh ingredients, Thai is not usually one I opt for but it was delicious, choosing a Red Thai chicken curry with some spring rolls for starter. Cocktails were also delicious with plenty of option available.
To finish two places that I had been to pre-pandemic but I seem to have gravitational pull towards that just won’t stop anytime soon.
Location: Across UK
My go to local spot for brunch. Offering full vegan and gluten free menus alongside their standard menu. Everything from a full English breakfast (with veggie and vegan options) to buttermilk pancakes to paninis to soup of the day. Great spot as there’s no need to pre book so great for a spontaneous food treat!
Locations: Birmingham, Codsall
Great aesthetic at Medicine, with a range of pastry and baked goods to eat in or take away, alongside a full brunch menu. I typically go for the Eggs Benedict but have recently tried the French Toast with bacon and maple syrup which was also delicious if your in a sweet mood.
I can’t wait for all the yummy food that 2022 is going to bring into my life!
