If you’re looking for some Christmas craft projects with a community vibe and step-by-step instructions, read on for three fun craft-a-longs which I can’t wait to tell you about.
What’s a craft-a-long?
It’s a craft project, designed by a creator, which they break down into small segments, to be released one by one over a period of time specified by the creator. The project instructions might be released via e-mail, YouTube, Facebook group…. Usually you can join in with a hashtag or in a Facebook group to see how other participants are getting along and to motivate each other.
Christmas craft-a-longs can be released as early as September or October, but you can still join in now with plenty of time before Christmas to make and enjoy the creations.
Repeat Crafter Me Christmas characters crochet-a-long
This cute and simple blanket is easy to make and if you get started soon, can be adorning your sofa well before Christmas.
Released on the blog over five weeks, it’s a blanket with panels of characters like Santa, an elf and so on. You can make the whole blanket base first, or character by character. The instructions are clear, including videos and written information on stitches and the yarn required. I can’t wait to finish mine!
Barmy Fox Cosy Cabin embroidery Stitchalong
Tori from Barmy Fox has released several embroidery stitchalongs during the pandemic to help boost creativity and banish loneliness at the same time. Her cute cabin embroidery pattern is on Etsy and breaks everything down in detail, from putting the pattern on fabric to stitch instructions.
Tori then goes live at 10am on weekdays on Instagram for the duration of the stitchalong to demonstrate that day’s stitchwork, for example a flower or section of cabin roof. Videos are uploaded to YouTube for you to catch up with. I have done a few stitchalongs now and they’re all fantastic because Tori is an excellent teacher. The final item is great as wall decor or a gift.
Della by Design Christmas card craft-a-long
Here’s one for the papercrafters. Della released five Facebook Live videos with a different card design everyday. The videos are now available on her website, and she’s also put kits together in her shop, with different skill level options. Della really has you covered! The designs are so sweet and will be lovely for sending to friends and family this year.
So there we have it! Which project will you be trying?
