It’s that time of year where we start to think about spring cleaning our homes, whether it’s hoovering under the sofas, flipping the mattresses (a monstrous task), clearing the shed out or sorting out the cupboard under the stairs (Yes, people still have those!).
But instead of telling you to get the Dettol or your Dyson out, I want to talk to you about how to spring your life.
Yep, you read it right. Sometimes we need to look at the different aspects of our lives and maybe change things up or just give our routine a little revamp. It doesn’t have to be anything life changing, far from it. It can be something so small but yet significant.
I always find a little spring clean, whether it’s actually cleaning the house or just making a few alterations on my lifestyle/routine, can really help my mindset and allow myself to not get stuck in a mundane routine. There’s nothing worse than waking up and carrying out the same routine everyday. (kind of like what we’re all doing now in a way…)
A little shake up never hurt anyone, here are some ways I will practice to spring clean my life and maybe some you can try too –
1) SORT THROUGH THE WARDROBE
____________
I’ll definitely be doing this before I get the Spring/Summer clothes back out of the storage bags and back into the wardrobe. I’ll have a good sort out of my Winter clothes as I’m sure there’s jumpers I haven’t worn during these colder months which I know I won’t wear again next Winter. The only bug bear of a clothes sort-out is the excessive amount of coat hangers sprawled on my bed. Seriously, after a clothes declutter, it’s like Mount Coat Hangers on my bed!
2) GO ON A UNFOLLOWING SPREE
___________
Now, a little bit of advice. Please don’t do a massive unfollowing spree all at once on Instagram, you’ll end up getting blocked from doing anything for a few days. I know, a massive ball ache. I’ve started unfollowing people (maybe just 4/5 a day) who are either inactive or simply just don’t inspire me anymore. It doesn’t mean I’m heartless (that’s a guilt I’ve tried to get over) it just means that I want my feed to be positive and inspiring. Nothing wrong with that whatsoever. Remember, have a look on Twitter, Facebook or even Snapchat, a digital spring clean is always good.
3) SET A BUDGET
___________
Budgeting is a task I have set myself over the last 2/3 years and I can honestly my savings account is joyous because of it. There’s something very satisfying when checking your bank account and noticing that there’s a little money spare at the end of the month. I have allowed myself a little treat here and there for good behaviour but otherwise I spend wisely with my pay cheque and I only buy the things I need rather than want. Clothes being the prime example of that. Having the sort out of my wardrobe has allowed me to buy more classic, versatile and durable clothes which I know will last for years and years. Also, I need to budget because I want a mortgage for a house. But I think I’m quite a far way off from getting one. Sticking to a budget has allowed me to be so much better with my money that my bank balance loves me now.
4) STEP AWAY FROM THE TECHNOLOGY
___________
For me, I do like a daily social media detox and to just step away from the technology at different times in the day. For example, when my phone needs charging, I charge it in another room and turn off the Wifi so I don’t get tempted by every buzz or ding notifying me of a notification from Twitter or a text message. I like to go for a walk (weather dependant) or do something around the house such as cleaning (the irony). That’s valuable time spent away from a screen and something I make the most of.
5) CHANGE YOUR FOOD PLAN
___________
Honestly guys, I do not mean go on a diet. But do you or have you gotten to a point where you are fed up to the back teeth of eating toast everyday for breakfast? Change things up a little! Make some French toast with berries and syrup, add a few eggs (whatever your favourite style) to your toasted bread. The possibilities are endless! I’m not just talking about breakfast, but each meal you consume a day. A little diet change and trying new foods may surprise your taste buds and let you discover new recipes to cook. This is an idea I want to attempt in the next few weeks as I’m looking at my diet and I’m a little fed up of eating the same foods every week.
6) REDEFINE MAKEUP // SKINCARE ROUTINE
___________
One positive I can take out of the first lockdown is that I finally formulated and structured a beneficial skincare routine that really nourishes my skin. I’ve reached a stage where I look forward to carrying out my morning and evening skincare routine!
In terms of makeup, a few weeks ago, I had a mahoosive clear out of my makeup bag and there were makeup items in there that were growing ‘things’ let’s just say. Most tubes or bottles were almost empty and needed throwing out. It gave me the chance to either replace or take stock of what items I necessarily didn’t need. Currently, my makeup bag feels a lot lighter and all the items inside are items I always use when applying makeup. Happy days.
So these are the ways that I plan to spring clean my life this year. There are plenty of other ways to spring clean every aspect of your life, it’s all about personal preference.
How would you spring clean your life? Let me know!
