I was adding some dates to my diary and had to look twice, how are we already in June? How are we already halfway through the year? I know people say it a lot, but wow this year is galloping speedily away from me.
In work we have monthly one to ones where we catch up on how we feel the month has gone and plan the month ahead, but how often do we do that within our home life?
I thought it would be a really good way to motivate me again and kickstart the second half of my year. I feel like the past couple of weeks I have really lost my mojo within my personal life and have lost focus on what I want to achieve. So here I am, setting pen to paper (okay not quite I’m typing on my laptop, but you know the drill) and thinking about what it is I want to accomplish in the remaining six months of 2019…
Book a holiday
Absolute top of my agenda. I need sunshine, a week of sipping cocktails and reading some books. I need a week off from the mundane day to day work life and a week away from my phone. My mind feels busy and chaotic and I know a week away will do me the world of good. A change of location, even if it is just for a week will help me refocus and relax my wired brain.
Continue to make healthier choices
In early February (I’m not a believer in new year’s resolutions) I made the decision I wanted to lose three stone. I had stopped personal training/exercising/healthy eating at the back end of 2018 and knew in doing so I would put on weight and end up feeling sh*t about myself but, looking back, I was quite clearly depressed. On top of that, comfort eating is, ya know.. just what I do.
I am now five months in and have lost just under two stone and the difference it has made to not only my body but my whole mental well-being continues to spur me on every day. Losing weight is not something I find easy to do but I am determined to keep making my life the healthiest that it can be (in moderation) and hopefully by the end of the year I will have hit my goal.
Look after my finances
After I left my ex, I also somehow ended up taking a lot of our joint debt with me which, thankfully, I am coming to the end of paying off. Once this is clear I am going to use the money I was paying out and start saving. I am hopeful to not live at home too much longer and will need every penny I have to be able to venture out on my own. Gone are the days of spending money every day on expensive coffees, make up and lots of other sh*t I don’t really need.
My future is important, and no prince on a white horse has come along to save me so it looks like this is something I will need to achieve on my own.
Take up yoga and practice mindfulness
This was something around 18 months ago I really got into but unfortunately is also something I let slide when life took over.
Listen, I know the benefits and I know how much of an impact this could have on me, but I just seem to continuously push it to the back of my agenda.
But I have decided today is the day (it is Monday after all) I am going to start small and aim for around thirty minutes every evening. I want to trial this for a month and really stick to it, and then mid-July I am going to recap whether I have felt I have benefited.
One thing I know I need to work on is stop being so freaking hard on myself. I am so good at lifting other people, making them feel good about themselves but the complete opposite when it comes to myself.
So, my last one is;
Be more kind to myself.
I truly believe if I can master a few of these things the rest of the year will fall into place.
