Here’s one thing that 99 per cent of my clients have in common…
They don’t feel quite ‘enough.’
They’re always waiting for ‘one day’ – they tell themselves that one day when they’re thinner, prettier, richer. THEN they’ll go ahead and wear the clothes they like and do the things they dream of.
Here’s the problem with one day.
It only ever arrives as the present.
As Abraham Hicks say: ‘The reason you want everything you want is because you think you will feel really good when you get there. But if you don’t feel really good on your way there, you can’t get there. You have to be satisfied with what is whilst waiting for more.’
And so lots of women get caught in a vicious cycle of punishing themselves, falling short of the perceived standard, feeling awful and thinking that the way to fix their unhappiness is to… punish themselves some more.
Ladies. I am here to tell you a secret.
You get to decide right now what kind of life you want to live. You get to decide right now what kind of mood you’re in. You get to decide right now that you can dress in the clothes you love, eat the food you like and treat yourself like a queen.
Because it’s only when you start to show up as the vision of yourself that you want to be, that you become her.
And why is that?… Because you were her all along.
When we are children, the sky is the limit. We live in a half-reality, half-imaginary state. Our minds our full of questions and ideas. Our lives are full of fun.
But then something happens. And that something is called ‘society.’ And society – through the messages we get in the media, from loved ones, from teachers, from brands – is that we aren’t enough. Or that we’re too much.
The message is that there is an ideal. And we, as girls and then as women, don’t match up to it.
And so we spend all our time (and our money) looking for a miracle cure. Looking for the thing that will help us finally fit in.
We weren’t meant to fit in.
We are walking miracles.
Think about it for a second.
Scientists calculate that the chances of you being born are one in 400 trillion. One in FOUR HUNDRED TRILLION.
You’re not just ‘a wife’, ‘a mother’, ‘a business owner’, ‘an employee’, ‘a sister’, ‘a friend.’
You are a walking miracle.
And chances are, that because you are ‘a woman’, you forgot this.
You’re so busy being all of the above that you forgot to be anything for yourself, too.
I am writing this on March 23, 2021. A full year since the UK went into lockdown. And if this year has taught us anything, it’s to celebrate everything.
And that means celebrating yourself.
And I am writing this because I speak to a lot of women in my role as a style coach. And they are all wonderful, vibrant, fantastic beings… and yet none of them seem to be able to see it.
Your one limited resource is time. When you realise you’re a walking miracle, you’ll stop wasting a single second of that precious time on giving yourself anything but the love, respect and celebration you deserve.
