Let’s face it, 2020 has been a shit show. But everything seemed to feel better when the Strictly Come Dancing line up was announced gradually over the space of a few days on social media, TV and radio.
I cannot wait for the glitz, glamour, glitter, lycra, men with open shirts, the judges giving their scores, the dance offs, glitterball trophies and just everything about Strictly to start again, it’s one of the highlights of my TV watching year.
With the line up being reduced to 12 celebrities rather than the normal 16, I think the producers of the show had to make sure the line up was going to be a banging one. Like most people, I literally could not wait for the first celebrity to be announced, you know winter and Christmas is coming when Strictly restarts!
The first celebrity was announced on The One Show and it was Caroline Quentin. Well known for her role in comedy Men Behaving Badly, I think she may surprise us all. Hopefully she’ll last a little while in the competition.
Next came Jason Bell, a baseball player (I think) from America. This man is definitely going to be one for doing the big and daring lifts with his dance partner and I certainly wouldn’t mind dancing with him!
Then Max George from the band The Wanted was announced. I think he will be a good dancer. He definitely will have dance experience from being in a band, but I suppose dancing in a band is VERY different to that of dancing the Waltz or Cha Cha Cha on the ballroom floor.
Ranvir Singh the ITV newsreader was the next celebrity announced to be joining the line up. I’m not sure how well she will do, again, I think she could be the surprise package. I don’t know how she’s going to do the early mornings and dance all day with her partner!
Clara Amfo the Radio One DJ was next to join the line up. I think that she’s a great addition, DJ’s have been on Strictly before and some haven’t fared so well i.e. Scott Davies (remember the red lobster outfit?!) but I’m sure she will have a good run on the show!
The boxer Nicola Adams will be making history on the show as the first same sex partnership on the show. It’s great that Strictly are doing this, after two of the male professionals danced together in a sequence in the last series, this certainly is a welcome addition and I hope she does well.
Now, my Mam, the hugest Strictly fanatic I know, was absolutely buzzing when Bill Bailey was announced to do Strictly. The comedian never fails to make me laugh and I cannot wait to see what he brings to the dancefloor, hopefully he won’t get a one from Craig during his stint on the dancefloor!
JJ Chalmers from the Invictus games was next to be called up. I think this man is going to do great on the show, I honestly didn’t know who he was before he got announced to do Strictly, and after reading his story, I hope he does amazing things on the show!
After withdrawing from the beginning of the last series due to injury, I’m so glad that Jamie Laing got the recall to try again and make his mark on the dancefloor! I wonder if he’ll be re-paired with Oti?
EastEnders star Maisie Smith certainly made an impression on the show during the Children In Need Strictly dance off last year, I’m not surprised she was asked back, from when I saw her on there, she was really good, I think she could be a potential finalist!
Singer HRVY was the penultimate celebrity to be announced, a great addition, I think this lad can be a good dancer, I hope he does well on the show!
Lastly, former home secretary Jacqui Smith was the last celeb to be called up. I got a feeling she will be partnered with Anton, everybody loves Anton, people are not so fond of politicians. But then again, remember Ed Balls?
So, my thoughts on this years Strictly line up? Quite a good mix I must admit, I think they all have something to bring to the Strictly ballroom, my predications are Maisie, HRVY and Max to be in the final three. I like to make a guess before the show starts, it’ll be interesting if one of my chosen three end up in the final!
