I can certainly speak for myself and say that I am all for Harry and Meghan aka the Duke and Duchess of Sussex. I think they are such a beautiful and powerful couple and I know they can have a real influence on us as a millennial generation.
Recently, it was their little baby Archie’s christening. A day which the press thought they would have access to, but the couple chose to have a private ceremony for just family and close friends. I can completely understand their reasons for doing this, but I have seen people complain and have a go at them, particularly Meghan, about their decision to keep the occasion away from the camera lense and the general public. They published two photos on Instagram which, by the way, were just beautiful. That should have been enough for us, but for Royal enthusiasts and the press it wasn’t. From the way some people talked about it, it would seem they expected a whole art gallery dedicated to the christening day.
At the end of the day, it’s their lives. If they chose not to share baby Archie’s day with the world, then they have reasons for doing that and we should ALL respect that. I think people expected them to go about things in terms of access and photos in the same way William and Kate aka the Duke and Duchess of Cambridge have with their beautiful family. They don’t show off their children to the public a lot, but they allow us to see into their lives just enough to keep the nation happy.
We can argue that Harry and Meghan should go about things the same way, but with all the uproar of Meghan choosing to have a home birth rather than traditionally going to the Lindo Wing and stepping out onto the steps outside to show Archie to the world, I can’t honestly blame them for not wanting to do that. Some people gave them so much stick and aggro over it, but I really understand their decision to keep things private.
My way of thinking of it is, the Queen has a lot of power over her family (not that I’m saying she’s controlling) and she wants the Royal Family to keep to traditions that have been upheld for so many years, even centuries. She surely would have said something to them by now if she wasn’t happy about the privacy they have adhered to. If she thought they were making some wrong choices, then she would have brought it up with them. I’m not saying I’m a Royal expert, but this is a reasonable assumption.
So do I agree with Meghan and Harry keeping the day private? Yes I do. I don’t share my private life all over social media and the world, so what makes us think that the couple have to because their in the public eye for the majority of the time? Perhaps we all need to lay off them a bit.
