We didn’t have to wait long in 2020 to hear of a bit of drama in the Royal Family. The news being that Harry and Meghan have made the decision to step down as senior royals and become independent.
As you’ve seen, the news has caused a massive uproar and debate. Are they doing the right thing? Are they just modern Royals who want to do their own thing?
There’s so many different questions which need to be answered. Obviously everybody has a different opinion on the situation.
First of all, I bloody love Harry and Meghan! They are honestly couple goals and are a gorgeous family. When I first heard of the decision that they were to step down from the Royal roles, I thought good on them! They were that Meghan has been treated by the media has been cruel and mentally damaging for her. I remember watching a Harry and Meghan documentary on ITV a few months ago, the journalist asked her about life being a part of the Royal Family. Meghan’s answer to the journalist’s question was very honest, raw and sad – “Thank you for asking me if I’m ok, not many people have” – an answer which speaks a thousand words.
Harry is clearly putting his wife and child first, as any father would. Maybe making an independent life for themselves is the best thing for all concerned.
However, when they were dating, Meghan must have known what she was getting herself into when she married a prince. It’s not the same media attention you would get from being an actress (seen Suits? Brilliant show!). The Royal Family are the biggest constitution and most popular family in the world. The media attention Meghan was going to receive was going to be far greater than she would have had in Hollywood.
One thing I did dislike is that the couple released their statement before consulting the Queen first. There’s something called respect, every inch of it you would reserve for the Queen. At the end of the day, she’s the head of the Royal Family. Surely every decision you make in the Royal’s has to be run by and agreed with by the Queen first? Surely if William and Kate, Prince Charles and even Prince Phillip have to talk to the Queen about anything that may possibly have an effect on the monarchy or daily Royal life?
Maybe they did go about things the wrong way. But they’re a couple who want to raise their son in a hospitable, calm and safe environment, as any parent would.
What gets me is that with everything that has happened with Prince Andrew, this seems to have caused more havoc within Buckingham Palace. Strange.
Anyhow, good luck to Harry and Meghan, good for them for wanting to live independent lifestyles and make their own money. Their the first Royal’s to do it (I think) and they may not possibly be the last to do so.
