Anyone else feel lost and disheartened when I’m A Celeb finishes on TV? No? Umm…ok.
The public voted and Ant and Dec announced it’s new Queen of the Castle, Giovanna (sorry for the spoiler if you haven’t watched it!) as their winner. A great winner in my opinion, I was hoping her or Jordan would win it this year as their the celebs that really struck a chord with the nation.
With the series not being able to take place in the Australian jungle this year, the castle seemed and was a welcome change of scenery, and the fact that the castle was in Wales made the series even better. I think a lot of people thought that the celebs would have a more cushy lifestyle in the castle, but it didn’t seem as cushy as people thought it would be. Sleeping outside in a cold castle on a freezing night in Wales, nah, I’m not up for that.
The trials seemed to remain as gruelling and as crittery as the ones that would usually take place in the jungle. The fact that one trial included a wolf and pigeons honestly was the best!
So, the celebs, quite a mixed bunch but a group that seemingly got on well, were supportive of each other and always had each other’s back during the tough trials and constant feeling of hunger. But we still don’t know who the Phantom Dribbler was.
Here are my thoughts of each celeb who entered the castle this year –
Hollie – when she announced herself as Hollie Arnold MBE to the celebs when she met them – nah, no need for that. She was an ok character, a real inspiration to so many people. But didn’t really do much in there and wasn’t surprised when she was the first celeb to be voted out.
Ruthie – A late arrival along with Russell into the castle, I did quite like her. She had a lovely aura about her and showed her emotions in one episode when she was having a down day and I could honestly say I related to that so much and she showed she’s human and down days will happen, wherever you are.
Bev – Oh Bev, she did make me chuckle during her time in the castle! From her hair always being in disarray to calling her husband John a megashag (a # which eventually trended on Twitter!) and putting her foot in it with Vernon about the show Splash which he presented a long time ago. A great celeb to have in the castle!
Victoria – I was quite surprised that Victoria was voted out as early as she was. I had a hunch she’d have gotten a lot further. You can tell she does a lot of interviews as her interviewing skills in the castle were second to none! But that trial she did, oh my word, how slow was she?! As Ant and Dec said “She was SO slow!”
Russell – A late arrival along with Ruthie into the castle, I thought Russell was going to be one of those singers that would sing everything in a conversation. He surprisingly didn’t annoy me too much, that rotisserie trial he did was one of the funniest highlights during the series! Also managing to convince everyone that Shakespeare’s first name was Walter rather than William was very clever (all to win a treat for the campmates!)
Jessica – My mind was blown when I found out Jessica was part of that band, Neon Jungle a few years ago! (Google them). Jessica was a celeb who kept herself to herself and she took part in one the most hilarious and iconic trials with Shane Richie I have ever watched! Remember Zin-fanny-del?!
AJ – AJ was a man I couldn’t really take to before entering the castle. My opinion completely changed of him as the series went on! He seems really nice and genuine and was the centre of the tiny little bit of tension with Shane about hot water and washing up. How he kept his cool when Shane threw that bowl at him I don’t know, shows what a strong character he is. That trial he did with Jessica when they were in the pitch black was hilarious also!
Mo – Ah Mo. What a sweetheart, the gift that keeps on giving. He had me howling every episode! From swallowing toothpaste, getting freaked out by pigeons, dressing up as a robin and Robin Hood to trying to act like Phil Mitchell, he was brilliant and quite shockingly he didn’t make the final four.
Shane – Shane was most certainly the Marmite of celebs this year. I’ll be honest, I did love Shane, some moments he did really make me laugh, his silliness was always funny. But I think that little bit of nastiness and that little rift with AJ changed the minds of so many watching him. He did a LOT of trials this year, he was great with Jordan in the first proper trial with the snakes, he comforted Jordan with his fear of snakes and claustrophobia (amongst so many others!) and also took part in that hilarious trial with Jessica. A celeb to be remembered in the camp.
Vernon – I loved Vernon, he was like the agony aunt of the camp. Always supporting, comforting and cheering on others. I was so glad he got through to the final, he deserved it and I have never seen a celeb blitz through the Celebrity Cyclone challenge like he did, seriously, did you see the way he ran up there?! Also, this maybe just me, but does anyone else now fancy the pants of Vernon Kay?!
Jordan – Oh Jordan, what a legend! He has come so incredibly far during his time in the castle, from spewing on the side of a cliff at the beginning to facing his fear of snakes in the last trial, he’s been amazing. A real character in the camp and I felt for him when he kept getting voted to do all those trials at the start. He’s even said that he’ll be leaving the castle a different man and it’s completely changed his life, a true inspo. So glad he got to the final and I wouldn’t have minded him winning.
Giovanna – I adore this woman. I’m so glad she was made Queen of the Castle! She was a true momma to all the other camp mates, even called herself Lady Hugger. The trials she took part in never phased her in the slightest, I wish I could be like that! I’m so happy that she won, she never put a foot wrong and was and is an inspiration to us all.
There we have it, another series is done and dusted. It looks like the celebs will be making a return to the jungle for next year. I’d love them to do another series in the castle again in the future, it would make a nice change! I hope you all enjoyed the series as much as I did!
