Backlash and criticism of the Royal spouse has always been around, even during the reign of Henry VIII with his marriage to Anne Boleyn. This has become something that comes with the job of marrying a member of the Royal family and being a Royal in general.
For the Duchess of Sussex, Meghan Markle, this whole ordeal started from the moment that there were even suspicions of her relationship with Prince Harry. The reasons for this backlash are to my understanding that she was and still is very outspoken and not therefore really following the rules of Monarchy. This alone gives a feeling of disappointment, however, we all need to remember that Her Royal Highness is still new to all of this, even more so as she comes from a country that does not even have a Monarchy, so this is all very different for her. The scrutiny and media backlash she receives is unfair as she is learning on the job and is working in a series of trial and error. Yet she will eventually learn her role and continue to do incredibly well as a working member of the Royal family.
I had the honour of meeting Harry and Meghan during their visit to Cardiff in 2018. She was lovely warm and apologised for being late due to the trains. Her humanness and personality really captivated me among many others. This was before the real onslaught of the negative media storm, yet you could tell by how she was interacting with people and showing the ring that sparkled in the winter sun that she wants to try and fit in with the British people and that she truly is trying, which is all you could ever ask for. Yes she has made some mistakes but don’t we all when we are just learning how to do something? So while all of the negative press she is getting highlights to her where she is going wrong, they do however need to calm down and remember that she is learning on the job and give her a break.
