I truly believe they don’t make series like they used too and Sex and the city for me is up there as one of the best and nothing for me has ever come close.
Although this series was popular in the late nighties I didn’t start watching until I was in my mid-twenties, and I was hooked almost straight away binging three episodes a night. Did I relate to their lives? Absolutely, each character was like an old friend and relatable in lots of different ways.
Not only that, SATC fuelled my love for fashion, New York and female friendships and although there are certain aspects to the show that don’t date particularly well I can still pick up an episode now almost 20 years after it first aired and fall in love all over again.
So, when they announced a film in 2008 followed by a further film in 2010, I was beside my self with excitement and although I did enjoy the first film in particular, the second was not the best and I think it truly showed in the fact there was no third.
However, if you’re new to SATC I wouldn’t judge the series on the films, the series are so much better!
At the start of this week SJP announced via social media that there may or may not be a new series in the works.
And I for one, am HERE FOR IT!
If you’re a big fan like myself you will know all about the behind-the-scenes feud of two of the biggest stars Sarah Jessica Parker and Kim Cattrall, so it came as no surprise to me that the new series will only feature 3 of the stars not 4.
Am I surprised? Not at all.
Do I think it will affect the overall show?
Yes possibly, but it truly does depend on how they write it into the series that Samantha is no longer part of the friendship group. For me, the worst things they could do is try to replace her character or kill her off.
But really isn’t that how friendships go anyway? People move away, they get married, life isn’t always just about your girlfriends as much as we would like it to be.
I really hope they portray Samantha as the character we all know and love perhaps in another city, still sleeping with men young enough to be her son and just being her fabulous self.
Will I watch it regardless?
OF COURSE! I would not miss it, because after all the show has so much more to offer than just one character, the show for me was a collective and although SJP was always seen as the main character, I was as invested in the other characters just as much as I was with SJP.
I just really hope they stay true to the characters that any true fan knows and loves and still has the focus on female friendships, through the good times and the bad times.
