Joe Biden is in, Donald Trump is out. How good does it feel to say that out loud?!
I avidly watched my TV screen on Wednesday 20th January to watch the Inauguration of Joe Biden and I can honestly say that everybody on my Twitter feed was doing the same. It was honestly the highlight of my 2021 so far – and I think I can safely say it was the same for a lot of people too. From the swearing in to Lady Gaga power-housing the American national anthem in that stunning dress and brooch. The matching of masks and outfits was such a fashion statement, something I hope to do once I can go outside again. Also the Bernie Sanders meme’s aren’t getting old anytime soon. #Hysterical.
In regards to the Inauguration, a lot of history was made i.e. Kamala Harris. She is now the first female Vice President in American history and she is already an icon and inspiration to so many people. To have a woman hold one of the highest and most respected jobs in the world is such a iconic moment in history and something we as women can aspire to. I cannot wait to see what impact she will make alongside Joe Biden in office. I actually felt quite emotional watching the Inauguration as I felt happy to see positive change begin to happen in front of me on BBC1 (or whatever channel you watched it on)
One thing I took from the Inauguration, as I think a lot of people did, was that I felt a huge weight being lifted off my shoulders with Joe Biden now being President. Donald Trump, was, let’s face it, not a brilliant President. I can think of a lot of worse things to say about him, but let’s not sink down to that level! He was as much use as a chocolate teapot and after what happened in the Capitol and him being impeached twice, if found guilty at trial there is no way he could EVER be a politician or run for Presidency EVER again.
I feel Joe Biden and Kamala Harris can be a breath of fresh air that the world needs right now. This duo can and will get things done. Good things. Overturn the bad things that Donald Trump did. I kind of feel that the world is a safer place again. It’s in safe hands. It’s taken four years, but we’re in a good place again in terms of the American presidency. Biden has already done one good thing and signed America back into the Paris climate agreement. Oh my god that is just a huge relief to us all.
I’m not one for politics, I can barely understand what any of it means to be frank! I can only just about name the people who are in charge of the UK. I owe that to those daily Covid briefings where none of them can seem to find the clicker for the PowerPoints.
But with a new President in charge, I hope things will become more positive, safe and just happy again. The last four years must have felt so tense to be an American and I can’t imagine how happy a lot of America’s must be right now and how relieved they must feel. To have someone who was a liability in office must have felt frightening at times. I know we still have a global pandemic to contend with right now, but just think, 2021 was the start of change – the good kind.
