It’s been a long time since I’ve uploaded a blog post, but finally I am back! Life lately is busy with my baby, the household, our family business, travelling and of course, with sewing. I have got back my sewing mojo but I do not have much spare time. It is quite a tricky situation. I will try my best to keep you updated on my sewing journey this year, but for now, let’s start here.
Back in 2018 I had wanted to sew a dress for Christmas that year but I could not make it in time, however in 2019 I succeeded! I wanted to feel pretty in it and it also had to be suitable for breastfeeding. The logical decision was to pick a wrap style dress with a sewing pattern that had already been in my stash for a while. This is the Lena Wrap Dress from Simple Sew.
About the sewing pattern
The pattern made by Simple Sew is for beginners. The instructions are clear and every step is illustrated with pictures. The photos help a lot for beginners. The challenging part, for me, was the lining. It is not something I had ever done before this. Overall, the pattern was quite easy to make and I am very satisfied with it. Having made this one, I will definitely not be afraid of making linings in the future.
About the sizing
I went for size 12 and size 14. I had to mix the two sizes for the top but I have to confess that I did make the top a bit big. This is the reason behind using a belt on my waist. And of course, I have shortened the skirt.
About the fabric
Having browsed fabric for winter dresses, in the end I ordered a beautiful plum/purple jersey from Minerva Crafts. This medium weigh jersey will keep me warm enough through the winter months. Are you wondering how is it possible to online shop a fabric? Well, there are short videos on their website which are very handy! I was never disappointed.
The Lena Wrap Dress is a quick make and I enjoyed the sewing process. I am very pleased with the result but I have to improve my fitting skills. The first time I wore this dress was on Christmas Day and since then I put it on quite a few times. My goal was to create a dress which I can wear on several occasions. The Lena Wrap Dress fits the bill perfectly. Either it can be classy and elegant, or it works well on weekdays too. What do you think? Do you agree with me? Do you like my make?
