There are so many different ways to grow the number of likes on your business’ Facebook Page. In this blog I am going to explain three foundations that will help when posting content. They are:
and they all refer to your audience. How can you entertain, educate and engage with them?
Let’s jump straight in and talk about entertaining your audience. Here are eight different ways in which you can be sure your following is entertained:
- Post relevant content that your audience would find entertaining;
- Memes – because who doesn’t love a meme? Be sure to make it relatable to your audience;
- Viral content – that you think your audience would enjoy;
- Funny situations – tell your audience about a funny situation that you were in;
- Popular culture;
- Current affairs – warning, be careful as it can be sensitive;
- Original content;
Think about some of the people or accounts that you follow on Facebook. Why do they entertain you? What do you like about them? What makes you like or comment on the posts?
Write a list of 8-10 accounts that your target audience would enjoy following. What are they doing to entertain their audience? Consider whether there is way that you can inject some of these strategies into your social media.
You have knowledge that your audience will not. Sometimes we can get lost in the amount of industry specific knowledge we have and think that everyone else must have that same level of familiarity too. This is not true.
- Make an educational piece interesting to someone who is learning this information from scratch. Put your own spin on it;
- Tell a story using your own stories and experiences;
- Connect directly by using the live function on Facebook;
- Break it down by sharing bite-size tips with your audiences;
- Give tutorials.
Consider: What are the ten things you wish every customer knew about your industry and what are there any pain points concerning those ten different pieces of information? Write a piece or upload a video on these subjects.
Ask yourself what three things you yourself have liked on Facebook over the last day? Why did you like them? Were they funny, political, or did they resonate with you? Most importantly, what three things can your target audience not help but engage with?
People engage with a post when it sparks an emotion, whether that be happiness, anger, pride or sadness, for example.
The human factor and trust are super important when building your business. But, be careful not to over share. If in doubt, ask a friend to take the TMI test (Too Much Information) on your post. I’ve seen some influencers inappropriately share far too much information when they are launching a new product or service. Instead of connecting with their audience, it’s cringey, uncomfortable and I usually end up unfollowing them. Equally, it is important when you are writing an engaging post to consider whether you are happy for the whole of the internet to see this and for the post to be visible on the internet forever.
Encourage people to leave a comment on your posts by giving them a call to action. Don’t forget to reply to all comments even if it’s a few days later. This is the easiest way to directly engage and connect with your audience.
It is a good idea to ask your audience a question. This doesn’t necessarily have to be related to your business – it can take a more personal angle eg Are you an early bird or night owl? Do you prefer tea or coffee? This will encourage engagement which will in turn grow your following.
You can also invite people to like your page if they have liked your post. Click on the list of people who have liked your post and click ‘Invite’ next to those who haven’t already liked your page.
